PitchResponse gives journalists and publishers a direct channel to the sources they need. Instead of relying solely on existing contacts or waiting for pitches to land in your inbox, you can post a source request and have qualified experts, business owners, and subject matter specialists respond to you directly through the platform.
This article covers what PitchResponse offers journalists, how the journalist experience works, and how to get your account set up correctly.
What PitchResponse Offers Journalists #
As a journalist or publisher on PitchResponse, you can:
- Post source requests that are distributed to PitchResponse’s community of experts and contributors
- Receive pitches from sources directly into the platform, organized under your requests
- Get email notifications when new pitches arrive, with a direct link back into the platform to review them
- Follow up with sources via email for any additional information or to confirm their participation
- Choose whether to post requests publicly or anonymously, keeping your name and contact information private if preferred
PitchResponse is actively developing additional tools for journalists, including the ability to browse expert profiles. Keep an eye on the PitchResponse Roadmap for updates on what is coming.
How the Journalist Experience Differs from the Expert Side #
PitchResponse serves two distinct audiences: journalists and publishers who need sources, and experts and contributors who want to be featured. When you sign up as a journalist, you get access to a different set of screens than those available to experts. Your experience is centered around creating and managing source requests and reviewing the pitches that come in, rather than browsing opportunities to respond to.
If you accidentally signed up as an expert or contributor, contact PitchResponse support to have your account role corrected.
Signing Up as a Journalist #
When you create a PitchResponse account, you will be asked whether you are joining as a journalist or as an expert and contributor. Select journalist to ensure you are routed to the correct experience.
In addition to the standard account fields, journalists are asked to provide:
Company URL
The website of the publication, outlet, or organization you are representing. This helps establish the credibility of your requests within the platform.
Keywords
The primary topics and beats you cover. These help PitchResponse understand your focus areas and may be used to improve how your requests are matched with relevant sources.
Work Role
Your role within the media landscape. Options include reporter, writer, freelancer, podcaster, and others. This gives sources useful context about who is behind a request before they decide to respond.
Once your account is set up, you are ready to post your first source request. See 02. Submitting a Source Request for a full walkthrough.
